A milestone in video encoding.

The introduction of h.265 is an evolutionary step in video encoding, replacing the decade-old but still widely used standard known as h.264.

With 4K and HDR becoming more widely used on popular video streaming services and compatible TVs becoming more affordable, it’s important that the standards they are built upon are kept up to date too. h.265 introduces the ability to present richer colours on compatible devices like Apple’s iPad and provides up to 50% better compression while retaining the same video quality.

What does this mean for IFE?

Quite simply, more content capacity on the same devices with great image quality passengers have come to expect. Additionally, our tests have shown that the smaller file sizes h.265 makes available lead to a notable 5-10% increase in battery performance. on our IFE platform.
